Job Summary: The Communications Manager is responsible for setting strategy and executing the development of communication initiatives and the management of public relations for YMCA Metro Chicago. This role will include partnering closely with marketing, financial development and senior management in developing
communications projects and materials. The Communications Manager ensures that communications are consistent with the voice of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, its 25 centers, five camps and more than 100 extension sites.
Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree required preferably in journalism, English, communications, public relations, marketing or related field preferred.

•3 to 5 years experience in marketing, communications, writing or related field •Superior writing and editing skills required:
expertise in writing both for print and online projects

•Experience in messaging in a variety of channels including multimedia, the web and through social media.
•Deep understanding of taking communications initiatives from concept/need to finished product.

•Understanding of marketing concepts and content strategy for
maximized use of communications and the relationship between design and content.
•Ability to think, plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously in an organized fashion.

•Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast paced environments, as well as ability to escalate appropriately.

•Strong results orientation and proven track record of meeting goals and advancing organization’s missions.

•Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, team player, flexible and creative.

•Ability to travel regularly to the Y of Metro Chicago’s locations throughout the Chicago land area.

•Availability for possible weekend and evening commitments.

•A successful candidate will be creative enough to have an innovative idea, organized enough to fit the idea into an overall marcomm strategy, and persuasive enough to convince others of its merits.
