The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), located in downtown Chicago, is currently accepting
applications to fill the position of Auditor.
Under the direction of the Division Manager, Audit, the incumbent is responsible for performing
various types of audits in multiple locations simultaneously while maintaining a high level of
quality and meeting competing deadlines. In addition, the incumbent must be able to interpret and
apply the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and Government
Auditing Standards to projects as applicable
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Assist with planning audits and developing audit programs for review of organizational and
functional activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and RTA
ordinances. Clearly define the objectives,
the approach, the products, and the schedule.
2. Complete all assigned audit tasks using proper auditing techniques and tools, and ensuring the
work is in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal
Auditing and Government Auditing Standards as applicable.
3. Assist with identifying areas for improvement and workable strategies for improving
performance. Work closely with the manager and staff of the area under review and the Division
Manager, Audit to gain commitment to implementing the recommendations.
4. Prepare reports for management covering findings from audits and investigations and provide
recommendations for improvements in operating efficiencies and controls.
5. Assessing risk factors to identify high risk areas within the organization, and recommending
audits for inclusion in the Annual Audit Plan,
6. Periodically assessing changes in the risk profile and recommending changes to the Annual
The ideal candidate should have the knowledge, skills and mental development equivalent to the
completion of an Undergraduate or graduate degree in business or management-related field.
Accounting or Finance degree and a CPA, CIA and/or CISA certification/designation with recent
(within last three years) experience in performing large, complex audits in corporate or
governmental setting. A CFE or CRM designation is a plus.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in performing complex
audits of large organizations including audits of all facets of general business and financial
processes, information technology, and transportation agency related operations. Experience in
performing audits in sensitive and confidential areas and working in challenging environments.
Working knowledge of leading-edge audit processes and methodologies including process
mapping/flowcharting, data analysis, and automated audit tests. Possess solid knowledge of
International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and Government Auditing
Standards (issued by the Government Accountability Office-Yellow Book). Demonstrated knowledge of
internal control frameworks and concepts (COSO, COBiT). Proven Project Management and Leadership
Skills including planning, scheduling, coordinating, reviewing and reporting of the results of
audits. Experience in a team-orientated environment which includes performing multiple audits in
multiple locations. Demonstrated excellent inter-personal and communication skills (both written
and oral), and ability to maintain professional demeanor in high-stress situations. Demonstrated
experience in preparing complex audit reports using advanced professional writing skills which are
sufficiently actionable, and easily understood by the public.
